Ken Bromley Art Supplies has teamed up with Lacuna 5 to raise awareness of the climate crisis -- the greatest threat of our generation -- through the power of art. A series of AI-generated images envision how famous artists from history would depict some of the most pressing issues that threaten our environment, from deforestation to plastic pollution and factory farming. When coupled with the names of famous artists such as Van Gogh, Yayoi Kusama or Claude Monet, the AI technology has created completely unique pieces of activist art, including a portrait of Swedish teenage environmental activist Greta Thunberg in the signature pop art aesthetics of Andy Warhol. Earlier in November, political leaders from across the world convened at the COP26 summit to accelerate global action towards climate change prevention. Increasingly in recent times, there have also been several incidents involving climate activists destroying famous artworks to protest that'protecting life is more important than protecting art.'

MIT CSAIL researchers have created a machine learning system, Timecraft, that can deduce how a painting was produced and recreate the likely brushstrokes, even for famous artists. The design was first trained on 200 timelapse videos of digital and watercolor paintings, after which the scientists produced a convolutional neural network to'deconstruct' artwork based on what it had learned. The results aren't perfect, but they're more effective than you might think. Timecraft was better than existing benchmark tests over 90 percent of the time.

Prisma now lets you transform your photos into works of art offline
Prisma, the viral photography app that retouches your pics to resemble the work of famous artists, has updated its iOS app to allow for offline image processing. Half of the company's filters (that's 16 in total) are now available offline, with more in the pipeline, according to Prisma. In the past, the app would transform the look of your images into the style of a famous artist (such as Pablo Picasso or Roy Lichtenstein) by feeding the photo through an artificial intelligence. The AI would then reinterpret your image using a deep learning method known as neural networks. With its latest update for iOS, that algorithm will be available offline on a smartphone for the first time.

An iOS app has gone viral in post-Soviet states this past week, racking up over 650,000 downloads and the top spot in app stores around the region. Russian internet giant Mail.Ru even announced an investment into the product yesterday – a 10 percent stake that reportedly amounts to 2 million. The Russian-made photo app, Prisma, allows users to customize their images by feeding photos through an artificial intelligence that "repaints" them in the stye of great artists like Van Gogh, Munch, and Picasso. Unlike many other photo apps, Prisma doesn't simply slap a filter on top. Instead, the AI completely reinterprets the images using a deep learning method known as convolutional neural networks.
Recognizability of Individual Creative Style Within and Across Domains: Preliminary Studies
It is hypothesized that creativity arises from the self-mending capacity of an internal model of the world, or worldview. The uniquely honed worldview of a creative individual results in a distinctive style that is recognizable within and across domains. It is further hypothesized that creativity is domaingeneral in the sense that there exist multiple avenues by which the distinctiveness of one's worldview can be expressed. These hypotheses were tested using art students and creative writing students. Art students guessed significantly above chance both which painting was done by which of five famous artists, and which artwork was done by which of their peers. Similarly, creative writing students guessed significantly above chance both which passage was written by which of five famous writers, and which passage was written by which of their peers. These findings support the hypothesis that creative style is recognizable. Moreover, creative writing students guessed significantly above chance which of their peers produced particular works of art, supporting the hypothesis that creative style is recognizable not just within but across domains.
